You may have to reset your clock, enter radio presets, initialize power windows, initialize the sunroof and normalize the steering angle sensor. Once your battery has been replaced, you will have to register the new battery with the vehicle computer system. This tells the DME the age and health of battery to ensure proper charging. I wonder if anybody knows the process DIY how to open a key fog from a non ca key fog to replace the battery on a E90? It would be greatly appreciated The non-CA fob isn't made to be serviced when the battery fails, but: Here's supposedly how to open a similar fob. And here's a compatible replacement rechargable battery: The battery's leads are soldered into the fob, so you need a soldering iron, etc. To do this project or, even better, someone with electronics experience and the necessary equipment. I make no guarantee that this will actually work.

UPDATE: The instructions for opening an E66 fob didn't work on an E9x fob. I've been known to experiment for the sake of a good fest post, but I'll pass in this case. V4E would kill me if I destroyed one of our fobs trying to take the shell apart. I got it open! Once I realized that no one has opened one on the entire internet, I pushed ahead. This is a major job and unless you have experience with electronics repair and plastic fabrication don't try this at home.
1) Remove the valet key, 2) Slide a flat head screwdriver between the sides of the keyring, 3) BREAK it open, (BMW has welded the fob closed and you have to break it open to get inside) 4) Remove the PCB! (PCB = Printed Circuit Board) To put it back together will require more skilled work. I'm going to assume everyone can figure out how to de-solder and re-solder a battery to the PCB. To put it back together 1) Sand down the broken weld, (be careful to make sure you don't take away too much of the key or it'll be too small to be grabbed in the ignition) 2) Lay down the top and reinstall the PCB, 3) Place a small bead of superglue on the broken weld, (the bead should be small enough that the plastic just looks a tiny bit wet) 4) MAKE SURE YOU HAVE PROPERLY ALIGNED THE TWO HALVES, and press them together for about 15 minutes, 5) Allow about an hour for the glue to set and you should be good to go! I hope this helps everyone out. DISCLAIMER: I make no guarantee that this procedure will work. I purchased a bmw 330i e90 auto with one fob which does not work. The key works in the lock but no electronics. I think it is a non CA fob which charges when inserted.
I want to have two working fobs and am thinking of buying two uncut fobs off ebay that have the electronics in them and having the keys cut to match the one I have. How do I program them to work electronically in my car? Can most locksmiths cut duplicate keys?
Are aftermarket fobs dependable? Will the new fobs set the alarm when locking the doors? Are there any other options to obtaining two working fobs for my car that may be less expensive? Thanks for any advice. I got it open! Once I realized that no one has opened one on the entire internet, I pushed ahead.
